We are excited to share our new initiative: Start Genetic, a new campaign to educate the public about genetic testing and empower patients, families, and doctors to consider screening for genetic diseases.  It will be held annually on July 25, the birthday of Rosalind Franklin, who contributed to the discovery of the structure of DNA. 

Start Genetic was conceptualized, developed and launched by patient advocates and genetics professionals who believe that everyone with a genetic condition has a right to find out.  

Our goal is to socially normalize conversations about genetic diseases and genetic testing.  Short term, we want to elevate social media stories from genetic disease communities into the mainstream through stories about:

 

·       answered medical mysteries

·       improved care because of precision care guidelines

·       access to precision treatments or clinical trials

·       the value of connecting with a genetic disease community.
